L1_S17_Reading
Reading is a cognitive process involving decoding symbols to arrive at meaning. Reading
is an active process of constructing the meanings of words.
Tips to Read
Effectively:
• Know the Letters of the Language (Its forms, shapes, etc.)
• Know the Pronunciation of the Letters (for example the
sound of ‘a’ is different in ant (a), aeroplane (ae), aunt (aa), and lane (aee),)
• Don’t worry if you don’t know the word or don’t understand
the word (for example- baffle). Try to understand a word in the context or
using the clues or pictures associated.
• Don’t be frightened to see the big word or a new word (for
example- rationalization)
• Use the small words or words that you already know (for
example- antagonization can be read by using small words such as ant, ago,
gone, nice, sale, nation)
• Learn to syllabify (for example- angle could be
syllabified as an / gle)
